SHE PERFORMS (DIGITAL)

is a digital platform for female artists and their audiences to connect. The focus is on content that gives insights into the artists’ practice and oeuvres. And most importantly, gives artists the chance to have their own (unedited) voice heard, next to more curated content as well.

SHE PERFORMS: EXHIBITIONS, PERFORMANCES, EVENTS

Conceived by Lynn Seraina Battaglia and Holly Daizy Broughton at the end of 2017, She Performs is an inclusive movement that brings artists and their audiences together, empowering them to freely engage with and exchange ideas surrounding equality and gender representation.

She Performs is not about performance art - not exclusively. More so, the notion of performance is about how we performs ourselves, our gender, our sex. It asks the question to what extent this performance is influenced by society and the expectation of how one should be, how one should perform.

In February 2020 - just before the you know what took over the planet - we were able to open our second exhibition She Performs : The Body at the Glas Tank at Brookes in Oxford. Along the exhibition we ran an extensive programme that allowed the audience and local community to engage with the exhibition and artworks on several levels. The exhibition presented paintings, installations, videos and performances focusing on the corporeal in particular, examining how the body can be a locus; often a tool, an object, a vehicle; sometimes a disappointment, but always a triumph.

She Performs’ inaugural exhibition, the self-titled She Performs, took place in June 2018 at London Gallery West. Thirteen women artists participated in the exhibition with work in mediums from painting to sculpture, video, performance, photography, and installation. All work responded to the curatorial questions: ‘How do we perform the body?’ and ‘Who owns the body – physically and linguistically?’

In addition to exhibition-making and providing an online platform for women artists, She Performs hosts a series of storytelling events called She Hears.
