Body Camera Roll (Fact or Fiction)
Body Camera Roll (Fact or Fiction) - Sculptural photographic installation/placement - Dimensions variable
Born in London, artist Emily Durtnall studied and worked in film design prior to completing a master’s in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, graduating in 2017.
Emily’s practice reflects her fascination with the body – her own and other people’s. Subverting the norms of presenting photography, the artist uses large scale photographs sculpturally. Free standing, running down walls and spreading across the floor, Emily’s photographic sculptures give physical form to the splintered self she describes in language as raw and honest as her work:
"…feet, hands, creases and folds of flesh, sweaty – pressing together and bulging…the sweat and the frown and the squint. The nipples, the crotch and the double chins."
Although built from fragmented close-ups of the body, the artist’s work goes beyond the physical to focus on emotional states and explore the vulnerability and power of self-documentation.
